A BLUE CHRISTMAS SERVICE FOR YOU

Last Sunday, we celebrated our annual Blue Christmas Service. Christmas can be a difficult and painful time for some.  It may be the first Christmas without a loved family member who has recently died.  It may be a time that has always been difficult.  Whether it is the death of a family `member, relative, or friend, the end of a marriage or relationship, the loss of work, illness, depression, or the moving away away from places that have been secure and welcoming – all these can make us feel very alone in the midst of the celebrating and spending.

A Blue Christmas Service is for those for whom the Christmas season seems more filled with sadness, stress, and loss than celebration.  It is a service that centres on God’s gifts of comfort and hope to all who struggle at this time.  For all those who struggle and mourn, listen to the readings, reflections, and prayers that affirm the Good News of Christmas – that God’s Word comes to shine light into our darkness:

A QUOTATION FROM LUTHER

“…love dwells nowhere but in the heart, indeed, in the innermost center of the heart, and for this reason there is that difference between [His children] and bond servants, because [His children] serve Him, not in fear of punishment or desire or glory, but only to fulfill the will of God; but the bond servants are forced by fear of punishment, and they serve Him unwillingly and with great difficulty, or they are desirous of a reward, in which case they serve him with a mercenary intent, but never absolutely out of a desire to fulfill His will.  Particularly in time of tribulation does the servant and hireling run away, but [His child] perseveres….”

Letter From Canadian Lutheran World Relief To KOG

Greetings,

On behalf of Canadian Lutheran World Relief, thank you very much for your donation…Because of your support we are able to place essential aid into the hands of men, women, and children around the world that desperately need your help.

Together in 2017 we dispatched four containers of supplies to Mauritania, Tanzania, Liberia, and Angola.  These shipments benefited many children, and elderly.  For families that have already lost so much a warm quilt or a carefully prepared WE Care kit means a lot.

We are happy to report that in 2017 the WE Care program with your help shipped 22,266 quilts and blankets and 14, 696 WE care kits.  Together we were able to sen 50,134 kg of aid, valued at over $495,034.  We know that with your help we will be able to do so much more in 2018.

The challenges facing the world’s poor are immense, but together we have the opportunity to make a positive change in the lives of those displace by war, famine, and natural disaster.  Thank you very much for your continued support of CLWR and the We Care Program.

Sincerely,

Ian Mair
