PRAYER OF THE DAY
O God, on this day you open the hearts of your faithful people by sending into us your Holy Spirit. Direct us by the light of that Spirit, that we may have a right judgment in all things and rejoice at all times in your peace, through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Acts 2:1-21
The Coming of the Holy Spirit
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, ‘Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.’ All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, ‘What does this mean?’ But others sneered and said, ‘They are filled with new wine.’
But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: ‘Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
“In the last days it will be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.
Even upon my slaves, both men and women,
   in those days I will pour out my Spirit;
     and they shall prophesy.
And I will show portents in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and smoky mist.
The sun shall be turned to darkness
   and the moon to blood,
before the coming of the Lord’s great and glorious day.
Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

GOSPEL READING
John 20:19-23
Jesus Appears to the Disciples
When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’ When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’

TODAY IN OUR PRAYERS
Bill, Carol, Curtis, and Christine Buchkowsky, Teri Peterson, Mabel Zolotarchuk, Wayne Turner, Janet Gregory, Norm Gregory, the Rose family, Jody Giesbrecht, Marge McMillan, Kyrie Parimi, John Beaven, Doris Turner, Hilda Anderson, Linda Wolfe, Naomi, Mary Anderson, Joan Schock, Bev Gregory, Dale Robinson, Bryan Matschke, the family of Lyle Sand, the family of Hildegard Schneider (Renita Falkenstern’s mother), and the family of Cortney Palmer (Pat and Carol Sarich’s niece).

We remember the missing and murdered indigenous women in Canada, the people of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Ukraine, Sudan, South Sudan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Yemen, Venezuela, Somalia, Libya, Hong Kong, the Palestinians and Israelis, the Rohingya Muslim refugees, all at the Mexico/United States border seeking refuge, the people of Haiti suffering from natural and political disasters, the people of the Bahamas suffering from hurricanes, the victims, families, and communities grieving the tragic shootings in Nova Scotia, those in Fort McMurray and the Peace River region recovering from flooding, the people of Kenya devastated by flooding, those in central Michigan whose livelihoods have been washed out by collapsed dams, the people of India and Bangladesh recovering from Cyclone Amphan, the victims and families of the Armed Forces helicopter crash, those in the United States caught up in racism and injustice and the resulting violence and destruction of lives and property, and those throughout the world, in Canada, in our province, and in our community threatened by the coronavirus.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE OF FAITH
[The congregational response after each petition is: “COMPLETE YOUR NEW CREATION.”]
Pastor: As we celebrate the joy of the resurrection, let us pray for God’s continuing work of new creation in the life of the Church, for the peace and well-being of the world, and wherever brokenness and death oppose God’s abundant life, saying, “Hear us, O God of life,” and responding, “Complete your new creation.”

Petitioner: Breathe on us, Breath of God, God of promise, with a mighty rush your people were set ablaze by holy fire. Kindle in our hearts the flame of Gospel witness and the blaze of your love, that we may proclaim your saving grace to all the world and serve all people and all creation with the warmth of your love. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: Breathe on us, Breath of God, God of all creation, every living thing depends on you for life and sustenance. Open your hand and fill all creatures with good things. Infuse us with the sights, smells, and sounds of the richness of creation: for oceans and sky, for rivers and deserts, for lakes and forests, for mountains and prairie, and to care for it, that all may be satisfied. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: Breathe on us, Breath of God, God of hope, as another academic year is coming to a close for all and many look toward muted and postponed graduations, we thank you for the blessing of education and all that it has done and will continue to do for our daughters and sons. Provide refreshment and renewal for teachers and students in the summer break. Encourage them in their search for truth and value in their lives and be with them as they look for a better world than either we or they have known. Hear us, O God of life…

Pastor: Breathe on us, Breath of God, God of healing, in our weakness we know not how to pray. Intercede for us, bringing hope to the sorrowful, fearful, and anxious, and healing to those who are suffering or ill. We remember especially before you … Make us agents of your love, serving the sick, broken, weak, and forgotten ones. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: Breathe on us, Breath of God, God of peace, protect and lead your world through these breathless times wracked with trouble, violence, and distress. We remember all who suffer in the face of oppression, persecution, and violence. We pray for soldiers and civilians, for peacemakers and relief agencies. Draw us together in our common humanity that your desire for peace and life may be known in every time and place. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: Breathe on us, Breath of God, God of life, breathe that life into us and into our world and especially to those places and people whose lives have been disrupted and devastated in many ways. Put our compassion into practice that the homeless might be sheltered, the hungry might be fed, the brokenhearted might be comforted, the anxious might be calmed, the burdened might find release, and that all who provide protection and aid might work in safety. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: Breathe on us, Breath of God, generous God, fill us with compassion and concern for others, young and old, that we may look after one another in these challenging days. Bring healing to those who are sick with the virus and be with their families. Comfort the family and friends of those who have died. Strengthen and protect all medical professionals caring for the sick and all who work in our medical and health care facilities. Give wisdom to leaders in healthcare and governance that they may make the right decisions for the well-being of people. We pray in gratitude for all those in our country who will continue to work in the days ahead in so many fields of life for the sake of us all. Bless them and keep them safe. O God of creation and life, we place ourselves in your protection. May the mantle of your peace enfold us this day and tomorrow. Hear us, O God of life …
Petitioner: Breathe on us, Breath of God, God of mission, we need the visions of the young and the dreams of the old to build a community of shared ministry. The gift of your Spirit creates new ways to live. Open new opportunities, renew our ministries and our callings through your promise of new life and through your Spirit. Give us words that will speak compassion, open ears to listen with care, help us make use of our diverse gifts, that we might glorify you in many ways. Through your promise of new life graciously give us the resolve to faithfully worship, nurture and proclaim Christ’s love with one voice for all in our community and in our world. Hear us, O God of life…

Pastor: Sustaining God, as you bring life even out of death, hear our call for your abundant life, make our prayers part of your new creation, and guide us with the hope of joy in your presence for the sake of the crucified and risen one, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

People: Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
O God of glory, your Son Jesus Christ suffered for us and ascended to your right hand. Unite us with Christ and each other in suffering and in joy, that all the world may be drawn into your bountiful presence, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

GOSPEL READING
John 17:1-11
Jesus Prays for His Disciples
After Jesus had spoken these words, he looked up to heaven and said, ‘Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all people, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do. So now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had in your presence before the world existed.
‘I have made your name known to those whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything you have given me is from you; for the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you gave me, because they are yours. All mine are yours, and yours are mine; and I have been glorified in them. And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one.

Petitioner: God of life, our deepest identity is discovered in baptism, proclaimed in the Word, and nourished in Christ’s holy supper. Send your Spirit to help us in our struggle to be one people of faith who struggle for the unity that you intend for your Church and for the entire human family. Tear down the walls that divide us from one another and fill us with the grace of the risen Christ to make your name known to all the world. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of all creation, enlighten our earth darkened by our pollution gushing into the water, air and land. Empower us to eradicate pollution and to reduce our consumption of the earth’s resources. Bring water to lands where there is drought, sun where there is flood, renewal where there is fire, hail, and tornado, and sustainability where there is violence and war. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of promise, through your Word and font and table you call us into a love that exceeds our understanding or desire. Deepen our lives of prayer. Open us to the guiding of your Spirit. Fill us with compassion. We pray that through your renewing ways you would make your people into a Church which abides in the oneness of Christ’s love and embodies Christ’s perfect love in an imperfect world. Hear us, O God of life…

Pastor: God of healing, your promises are medicine and healing for our bodies, mind and spirit. Be present with those experiencing grief and loss, sickness and pain, fear and depression, addiction and abuse, loneliness and brokenness. We remember especially before you … Make us agents of your love, serving the sick, broken, weak, and forgotten ones. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of peace, your rule of resurrection ushers in a new way of life. Breathe that life into us and into our world that the homeless might be sheltered, the hungry might be fed, the brokenhearted might be comforted, the anxious might be calmed, and the captives to addictions might find release. Unite our words and deeds for justice with those of our sisters and brothers in the world. We remember all who suffer in the face of oppression, persecution, and violence. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of hope, through the prayer of your Son he has entrusted our communities, our lives, and our world into your care. We, too, pray for unity and peace in our homes, relationships, workplaces, and neighbourhoods. Draw all into your life-giving future: those who share our faith in Christ, those of other faith traditions, and especially those who have no faith. Hear us, O God of life….

Petitioner: Generous God, fill us with compassion and concern for others, young and old, that we may look after one another in these challenging days. Bring healing to those who are sick with the virus and be with their families. Comfort the family and friends of those who have died. Strengthen and protect all medical professionals caring for the sick and all who work in our medical and health care facilities. O God of creation and life, we place ourselves in your protection. May the mantle of your peace enfold us this day and tomorrow. Hear us, O God of life …

Petitioner: God of mission, you have redeemed and anointed your people through baptism and united us in the death and resurrection of Jesus for a life-giving mission. Your resurrection creates new ways to live. Renew all who feel downtrodden in this assembly; energize the old among us; give a spirit of commitment to the young. Help us make use of our diverse gifts, that we might glorify you in many ways. Through your promise of new life graciously give us the resolve to faithfully worship, nurture and proclaim Christ’s love with one voice for all in our community and in our world. Hear us, O God of life…

John 14: 15-21
The Promise of the Holy Spirit
‘If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you for ever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.
‘I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. For CHEP whose staff and volunteers are working hard to provide food security for those who are most vulnerable in our city: children, seniors, and those with lower incomes.
We remember the missing and murdered indigenous women in Canada, the people of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Ukraine, Sudan, South Sudan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Yemen, Venezuela, Somalia, Libya, Hong Kong, the Palestinians and Israelis, the Rohingya Muslim refugees, all at the Mexico/United States border seeking refuge, the people of Haiti suffering from natural and political disasters, the people of the Bahamas suffering from hurricanes, the victims, families, and communities grieving the tragic shootings in Nova Scotia, those in Fort McMurray and the Peace River region recovering from flooding and the people of Kenya devastated by flooding, the victims and families of the Armed Forces helicopter crash, and those throughout the world, in Canada, in our province, and in our community threatened by the coronavirus.

Petitioner: God of life, through the resurrection of Jesus you make all things new. We pray for all who hunger for the fruit of the Spirit, for all who feel spiritually empty, for all estranged from you. Send your Spirit to work among us creatively and redemptively to lead us into a richer, deeper meaning of living life in Christ and providing us with a love that overcomes all worry and fear. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of all creation, you have given us in baptism the waters of healing and of life. In creation you have provided water to sustain all life. We pray for this fragile earth, for all creatures that creep or run, swim or fly, that land, water, and air will be preserved and restored to nourish all life. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of promise, through your Word and font and table you call us into a love that exceeds our understanding or desire. We pray that through your renewing way of forgiveness, you would make your people into a church which abides in Christ’s love and embodies Christ’s perfect love in an imperfect world. Hear us, O God of life…

Pastor: God of healing, we pray for those who wait for relief from their burdens, anxieties, and griefs, and for those who long for their health to be restored. We remember especially before you the family of Caron Parke, her children, Melissa and Mark, and her grandchildren. Comfort them in their mourning and hold before them Christ’s promise that because I live you also will live. May all find comfort in the abiding presence of Jesus. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of peace, you abide with the nations. Reveal your truth, so that nations and peoples govern in peace and advocate for justice and safety. While we abide securely within your love, hear the cries for justice and compassion of our sisters and brothers throughout the world who are broken and helpless, and who suffer in the face of oppression, persecution, and violence. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of hope, give us times of refreshment and peace in the course of this busy life. Protect and keep safe all who travel this long weekend and in the coming summer months. Help us to use our leisure to rebuild our bodies and renew our minds that we may be opened to the goodness of your creation and well rested for our continuing service to you. Hear us, O God of life…

Provide perseverance and vitality to those at CHEP whose staff and volunteers are working hard to provide food security for those who are most vulnerable in our city: children, seniors, and those with lower incomes.

Petitioner: God of mission, you have redeemed and anointed your people through baptism and united us in the death and resurrection of Jesus for a life-giving mission. Your resurrection creates new ways to live and in your Spirit vision abounds. Peter and Paul had a vision of what to do. John had a vision of what will be. Give us vision of imagination and understanding to witness to life in you, to love, and to serve our community.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. Give us grace to love one another, to follow in the way of his commandments, and to share his risen life with all the world, for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

GOSPEL READING
John 14:1-14
Jesus the Way to the Father
‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.’ Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.’
Philip said to him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.

TODAY IN OUR PRAYERS
Bill, Carol, Curtis, and Christine Buchkowsky, Teri Peterson, Mabel Zolotarchuk, Wayne Turner, Janet Gregory, Norm Gregory, the Rose family, Jody Giesbrecht, Marge McMillan, Kyrie Parimi, John Beaven, Doris Turner, Hilda Anderson, Linda Wolfe, Naomi, Mary Anderson, Joan Schock, Bev Gregory, Dale Robinson, Bryan Matschke, the family of Lyle Sand, the family of Hildegard Schneider (Renita Falkenstern’s mother), and the family of Cortney Palmer (Pat and Carol Sarich’s niece).

Petitioner: God of life, through the resurrection of Jesus you make all things new. In baptism you have made a new people of us who live in your presence. Help us to see all people in the new light of the resurrection that through forgiveness and in love we might bring life, joy, and hope to any who are broken, sorrowful, and caught up in anxiety and worry. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of all creation, you have prepared a place for us in your creation and have given us the way and the truth that leads to life. Help us to care for this planet we have damaged. Provide wisdom, protection, and aid to all. Mend the scarred places of our earth. Hear us, O God of life…
Petitioner: God of promise, you call us into situations and prepare places for us that require difficult choices and decisions. Give us the self-discipline and forethought, the faith and the courage, to recognize the needs of not only our families and friends, but also our enemies, and to respond to all with forgiveness and care. Hear us, O God of life…

Pastor: God of healing, you promise to wipe away every tear from our eyes. Comfort those who are lost and discouraged, facing the loss of a loved one, a job, good health, sustaining relationships, or their own inner peace and wholeness. We remember especially before you …. Renew all with your promise of life. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of peace, your Spirit makes us a part of Christ’s living and life-giving self and makes us alive with Christ’s life. By your Spirit shape us to share your love. While we abide securely within your love, alert us to hear the cries for justice of our sisters and brothers in the world. We remember all who are broken and helpless, and all who suffer in the face of oppression, persecution, and violence. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of wholeness, your Spirit makes us a part of Christ’s living and life-giving self and makes us alive with Christ’s life. Nourished by the love of our mothers and all who show care and devotion to others, we pray for mothers we love and mothers we struggle to love, for grandmothers, adoptive mothers, stepmothers, and foster mothers, and for those who long to be mothers. Build strong bonds of tender care in families and friendships. Bless mothers and all who offer motherly care, child care workers, nurses and nursery attendants, and those who teach our children, that the love they offer will be a sign of your love for all people. Hear us, O God of life…

Hear us, O God of life …
Petitioner: God of mission, you have redeemed and anointed your people through baptism and united us in the death and resurrection of Jesus for a life-giving mission. Your resurrection creates new ways to live. At this time and with the gifts you have given us, enable us to serve and to witness to the one who is our way, our truth, and our life. Through your Spirit show us your ways; teach us your truth; enliven our mission.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
O God our shepherd, you know your sheep by name and lead us to safety through the valleys of death. Guide us by your voice, that we may walk in certainty and security to the joyous feast prepared in your house, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

GOSPEL READING
John 10:1-10
Jesus the Good Shepherd
‘Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers.’ Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.
So again Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

Petitioner: God of life, Jesus, the good Shepherd, calls us and through him we have the gift of new and abundant life and live in your presence. We pray for all that you call, gather, and keep in your presence: every nation, all tribes, peoples and languages, and for all in this community of faith: musicians, artists, teachers, greeters, readers, communion assistants, council members, and all who serve in so many ways. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of all creation, in the gift of the earth blessed by you for us, our acts of disobedience and faithfulness stand side by side. Forgive our lack of care and renew our stewardship for endangered species, polluted watersheds, clear-cut forests, land scarred by mining and ruined by poor farming practices, and a toxic atmosphere. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of promise, you lead us to a table of plenty where everyone is welcome. We pray for international relief agencies such as Canadian Lutheran World Relief, and local agencies such as the Saskatoon Food Bank, the Friendship Inn, and all individuals who care for the hungry, and especially for all who are fed by them. Hear us, O God of life…

Pastor: God of healing, you lead us through dark valleys and difficult circumstances. We pray for the lost and discouraged, for all facing the loss of a loved one, a job, good health, sustaining relationships, or their own inner peace and wholeness. We remember especially before you …. Renew all with your promise of abundant life. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of peace, while securely within your fold, do not let us sleep, but awaken us to hear the cries of our sisters and brothers in the world, who live in fear, who are broken and helpless, who suffer in the face of oppression, persecution, and violence, and yearn for peace. Hear us, O God of life…

Petitioner: God of mission, you have redeemed and anointed your people through baptism and united us in the death and resurrection of Jesus for a life-giving mission. Your resurrection creates new ways to live. Through your Spirit lead us to put aside our own lives, that your life may abound in us. When we act as lost sheep open new opportunities, renew our ministries and our callings through your promise of new life, and graciously give us the resolve to faithfully worship, nurture and proclaim Christ’s love with one voice for all in our community and in our world. Hear us, O God of life…
