Pentecost begins with a rush–the rushing, life-giving wind of God’s Spirit. We also remember that Sunday is a day of rest. Rest is not meant to emphasize relaxation as much as it does renewal. The Church year season of Pentecost recognizes that God’s Spirit breathes into us life-giving re-creation. The readings for these months of Summer worship focus on who we are in Christ, what is the nature of faith, what is the living out of this faith, what the life of following Jesus is all about. The Bread of Life, like the manna in the wilderness, and like the bread on the Lord’s table, declares how near and involved our God actually is in our daily lives. Through Christ’s word and Spirit we have refreshment and renewal.

First Reading Romans 6:12-23
Therefore, do not let sin exercise dominion in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. No longer present your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were entrusted, and that you, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms because of your natural limitations. We pray for the United States and Canada as we celebrate our nationhood. Grant to its executive, legislative and judicial leaders wisdom and hearts for justice that all our people may flourish.

Petitioner: Generous God, fill us with compassion and concern for others, young and old, that we may look after one another in these challenging days. Bring healing to those who are sick with the virus and be with their families. Comfort the family and friends of those who have died. Strengthen and protect all medical professionals caring for the sick and all who work in our medical and health care facilities. Give wisdom to leaders in healthcare and governance that they may make the right decisions for the well-being of people. On Sunday, July 5, King Of Glory will re-open to hold a service at St. David’s/Trinity. We will also hold our Annual General Meeting which was postponed from March. The AGM will begin at 5:30 and the worship service with Communion will begin at 7:00. In order to hold this service we will have to follow the protocols set by the Province for holding a worship service. The protocols and procedures are listed below:

Checklist and Guidelines for Re-opening Worship Services

Disinfect/sanitize worship space and entrance etc before the service

One person preps worship materials and conducts seating [pastor]

Pre-screening and Registration of attendees (if tracing is necessary)

Seating chart with six feet distancing (if tracing is necessary)

No sharing of pencils, pens, etc.

No serving of food or beverages

Try not to use the washrooms

Open doors and windows if possible

Use/wear face masks

Hand sanitizer available

No physical contact (e.g. sharing of the peace, no passing of offering plate)

No congregational singing (we might not stay with this completely?)

Used material should be set aside for 72 hours (worship folders)

First Reading Genesis 21:8-21 Hagar and Ishmael Sent Away
The child grew, and was weaned; and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. But Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, playing with her son Isaac. So she said to Abraham, ‘Cast out this slave woman with her son; for the son of this slave woman shall not inherit along with my son Isaac.’ The matter was very distressing to Abraham on account of his son. But God said to Abraham, ‘Do not be distressed because of the boy and because of your slave woman; whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for it is through Isaac that offspring shall be named after you. As for the son of the slave woman, I will make a nation of him also, because he is your offspring.’ So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, along with the child, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered about in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.
When the water in the skin was gone, she cast the child under one of the bushes. Then she went and sat down opposite him a good way off, about the distance of a bowshot; for she said, ‘Do not let me look on the death of the child.’ And as she sat opposite him, she lifted up her voice and wept. God was with the boy, and he grew up; he lived in the wilderness, and became an expert with the bow. He lived in the wilderness of Paran; and his mother got a wife for him from the land of Egypt.

Second Reading Romans 6:1b-11 Dying and Rising with Christ
What then are we to say? Should we continue in sin in order that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin go on living in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We remember the missing and murdered indigenous women in Canada, the people of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Ukraine, Sudan, South Sudan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Yemen, Venezuela, Somalia, Libya, Hong Kong, the Palestinians and Israelis, the Rohingya Muslim refugees, all at the Mexico/United States border seeking refuge, the people of Haiti suffering from natural and political disasters, the people of the Bahamas suffering from hurricanes, the victims, families, and communities grieving the tragic shootings in Nova Scotia, those in Fort McMurray and the Peace River region recovering from flooding, the people of Kenya devastated by flooding, those in central Michigan whose livelihoods have been washed out by collapsed dams, the people of India and Bangladesh recovering from Cyclones Amphan and Nisarga, the victims and families of the Armed Forces helicopter crash, those in the United States caught up in racism and injustice and the resulting violence and destruction of lives and property, and those throughout the world, in Canada, in our province, and in our community threatened by the coronavirus.

Petitioner: God of life, through your revelation to us as Trinity you call us into a love that exceeds our understanding or desire. As Trinity you model the way of living together as a community of unconditional love. Petitioner: Generous God, fill us with compassion and concern for others, young and old, that we may look after one another in these challenging days. Bring healing to those who are sick with the virus and be with their families. Comfort the family and friends of those who have died. Strengthen and protect all medical professionals caring for the sick and all who work in our medical and health care facilities. Give wisdom to leaders in healthcare and governance that they may make the right decisions for the well-being of people. We pray in gratitude for all those in our country who will continue to work in the days ahead in so many fields of life for the sake of us all. Bless them and keep them safe. Job Purpose
As Secretary, this person ensures the efficient day-to-day operation of the church office, supports and is responsible to the Pastor and the church council.
As Treasurer, this person manages the church’s financial records and payment procedures and is responsible to the Church Council.
We are looking for someone who is:
Highly organized, with excellent planning and time management skills
An excellent communicator both verbally and written
Proficiency in the use of software programs such as: Microsoft Office and QuickBooks
Independent and team worker
Punctual and maintains confidentiality
Education and Experience:
Minimum High School Diploma
Post secondary education or 2 years experience in business, computers and office management is an asset
Job Type: Part-time, 9AM to 3 PM Monday to Thursday, Friday: 9AM to noon. Pension and benefits.
